WE DID IT!

We hit the French coast in the early hours of Saturday morning, finishing in the dark. Mackenzie finished in 13 hours and 5 minutes and Emma finished in 14 hours and 15 minutes. Conditions were not ideal, but we were able to power through the difficult spots. After a three hour boat ride back, we reached Dover and headed to bed.

We appreciate your outpouring of support; WE COULDN’T HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT YOU!!!

A special shout out to our Wild Bunch. Bunches of banana love from us to you!!!

    Emma and Mackenzie,
WOW! Swimming the Channel itself is such an amazing accomplishment- and your crossing was compounded by the weather conditions. Yet, you were undeterred, swam with heart and determination, and met the challenge! What an inspiration for us all! Congratulations! : )

Oh, Mackenzie, I am so very, very thrilled for you! Emma, I’m sorry I haven’t met you, but CONGRATULATIONS to you both!!!!!!! I tracked you both Friday until we had to leave for weekend plans and I was left wondering how you were both doing, so checking your status was at the top of my agenda today (Monday). The two of you have done something extraordinary that only a handful of people have ever done in the course of the human race, and no one can ever, ever take that away from you! You dared to dream it, work for it and then you did it! We are all so proud of you and your accomplishment! Mackenzie, I’m looking forward to giving you a big hug at Baldwin in the fall.

Congratulations, Emma and Mackenzie! You have made the whole Smith community proud of you. There are certainly easier ways to get from England to France, but none more stirring than this.
